Tea House Treks
LODGE TREKS or TEAHOUSE TREKS are a feature of the Everest, Annapurna and Langtang area. There are basically two types of Teahouses; Standard and Deluxe. Standard Teahouses are found is all the above regions and Deluxe Teahouses are available in Annapurna region and Everest Region. However due to the higher inflow of tourist in the Everest region there are some lodges which can be categorized as upper deluxe class.

Standard Teahouses have basic rooms (standard size), mostly double bed rooms. Toilets and shower are located outside the lodge and a few have inside the lodge premises. Most of the commode in the standard lodges are of Indian style and as we go higher the commode is made of wood, though at present this has changed a lot and most places have real commode. The toilets do not have running water except in a few places. All the lodges have common dining room, which has a fireplace, located in the center of the room and have electricity too (In higher elevation they have solar system electricity just for the dinning room). Most standard lodges, till approximately at an altitude of 3500-400 meters have electricity in the rooms.

Deluxe Teahouses have all attached bathrooms with running hot and cold shower. Most of the toilet have European style commode.

The cook of the lodge prepares food in all lodges. The food is ordered upon discussion with the group's preference after selecting few items from the menu. All of the lodges have Chinese, Continental and Nepalese style food items, though the quality varies from lodge to lodge. The guide will advise and help you with regards to the food items.

Note: As we go higher, especially above 4,000 ~4,200 meters in altitude, most of the places do not have Deluxe Teahouses. Also note that deluxe teahouses are given to clients, only upon their prior request/booking as it cost more than the standard lodges.

The construction of lodges along the trails and the introduction of electricity to many villages and solar power has greatly improved facilities for both the local population and trekkers offering twin share/dormitory rooms, choice of food ensures a more pleasurable experience. You also enjoy close interaction with the host family.
